After reading and actually hearing what Rep. Virginia Foxx said about Matthew Shephard’s death, I decided to email her because she was TOTALLY INCORRECT! Here’s what I wrote:
“Rep. Foxx,
Your dishonoring of Matthew Shepard’s death by LYING today on the House floor is un-excusable! Your facts were WRONG! Check the New York Times from 10/12/1998. I am ASHAMED that you represent part of the state in which I reside. You should publicly apologize for this mis-informed quote. You have enraged the gay community and for good reason. I hope you understand that.
Respectfully,
Jonathan Britton
A Disgusted North Carolinian”
I also tried to call but couldn’t leave a voicemail as her mailbox is full…

Do the research and get your facts straight.
Any good teacher would give you a F grade on a paper or oral presentation that was so inaccurate. Stop spreading hate through false statements.
“According to local police and prosecutors, the two men lured Mr. Shepard out of a bar by saying they were gay. Then, the Laramie police say, the pair kidnapped Mr. Shepard, pistol-whipped him with a .357 Magnum, and left him tied to a ranch fence for 18 hours until a passing bicyclist spotted Mr. Shepard, who was unconscious.”
I don’t know about North Carolina, but that sounds like a hate crime to me!

have you heard a response from Ms. Foxx yet?
Rachel Maddow interviewed Judy Shepard about the comment and the hate crimes bill.
